With Daniels Out, Is Perry the Answer? No

Conservatives are once again looking for a white knight to save the GOP field and the newest name being promoted is Texas Governor Rick Perry.

With Mitch Daniels announcing that he will not seek the party's nomination, conservatives are once again looking for a white knight to save the Republican field. The newest name being promoted is Texas Governor Rick Perry. On his radio show Wednesday, May 18th, Rush Limbaugh said that Perry has the “potential to light this up,” though Perry maintains that he has no interest in running.

Let’s take a moment to remind ourselves who this guy is.

1. “There’s no reason to dissolve our Union, BUT...”

Most people believe that the question of whether or not states should secede from the Union was settled in 1865, but Gov. Perry wanted to remind people that the option is always on the table.

2. “This administration is interested in punishing Texas”

Governor Perry is rightly concerned about the administration’s immigration policy, but is Obama really setting aside Texas for punishment?

3. “I urge Texans of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers on that day for the healing of our land”

When fires are raging in your state, a comprehensive disaster management strategy is needed. Some may wonder whether issuing a proclamation declaring a day of prayer is the best use of the Governor’s finite time.

4. "In my faith, that's what it says, and I'm a believer of that,"

When a religious leader says that non-Christians are “going straight to hell with a nonstop ticket," It is probably doesn’t help a Governor of a large and diverse state to say “In my faith, that's what it says, and I'm a believer of that." It may be true, but there are just some things you are not supposed to say when you represent 25 million people in your state (and especially if you ever want to represent the 300 million people in the whole country.)
