West Slams GOP Pledge as "Boilerplate"

Politico reports:

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) will head to south Florida Monday to campaign for Allen West, a fiery conservative who’s in a tight race against Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.).

But West, a tea-party favorite, isn’t exactly looking to make nice with the House Republican leader.

In an interview with POLITICO, West signaled that he’s not completely ready to embrace the GOP establishment – and he dismissed the highly touted “Pledge to America” agenda as more “rah rah” and “boilerplate” from Washington Republicans.

“If John Boehner is speaker, I’m going to hold his feet to the fire,” West said in an interview at the PGA National Hotel and Resort. “And I think that’s important. And that’s what people are expecting of me down here.”

West is part of an anti-establishment wave that could very well produce a Speaker Boehner but could also present a whole new set of challenges for Republicans who hope to govern the House.

Monday is also a big day for Klein, as he'll raise money with President Barack Obama and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) at Alonzo Mourning's mansion in Coral Gables, Fla. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was slated to attend, according to a schedule a Pelosi aide released earlier this month, but now she won’t be there.
