Reid: Cantor's Too "Childish" For Debt Talks

Politico reports:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) lashed out at House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) in a floor speech saying he's acting "childish" and he has "shown he shouldn't be at the table."

Citing anonymous Republicans criticizing Cantor in a POLITICO article, Reid said some in the GOP "agree he shouldn't be at the table."

Reid said it was "childish" for Cantor to abandon debt talks with Vice President Joe Biden amid a dispute over tax revenues.

"Another Republican said Cantor is putting himself first," Reid said. "The time for personal gain and political posturing are over."

The comments come after a stormy White House meeting where President Barack Obama had an explosive exchange with Cantor.

Democrats are clearly trying to marginalize Cantor. At a press conference, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Cantor has been the one Republican who was not been "constructive," saying he would lead the country into default.

In response to Reid, Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring said: "It’s not surprising that Harry Reid doesn't want to cut spending and wants to raise taxes with so many Americans out of work. This isn't a question about personalities - Eric, President Obama or Harry Reid - it's about doing what is right for the country and trying to find a productive solution that finally demonstrates Washington is serious about America's fiscal health."
