Rahm Must Prove Chicago Residency at Hearing
Rahm Emanuel will have to prove to elections officials on Monday that he's been a resident of Chicago despite working as President Obama's White House chief of staff for the last two years.
Emanuel, who is running for mayor, faces more than 30 challenges to his eligibility, according to strong>NBC Chicago<. City election officials have scheduled a status hearing for Emanuel's residency on Monday.
Critics argue Emanuel forfeited his Windy City residency when he went to work in the White House. Emanuel maintains he's eligible to run for mayor because he owns a house in the city, pays property taxes on it and votes in Chicago elections.
Before joining the White House, Emanuel was a congressman from Chicago.
It's going to be a long day for Emanuel, strong>according< to the Chicago Tribune. He's set to face questioning from those raising objections or their lawyers, then questioning from his own lawyers, a cross-examination by the objectors, and then possibly a final round of questioning from his own legal team.
