O'Donnell to Resubmit Campaign Funding Records
A lawyer for Christine O'Donnell has informed federal officials that the failed Delaware Senate candidate will resubmit financial records for her 2009-10 campaign.
O'Donnell, whose campaign finances are the subject of a Justice Department investigation, will refile the paperwork later this month after a comprehensive review, attorney Cleta Mitchell told the Federal Election Commission in a Dec. 21 letter, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The Republican is accused of illegally using campaign funds for personal expenses, including meals and rent on her home.
Mitchell wrote that the campaign would go back to the beginning of the election cycle "to reconcile all entries in the bank account to the FEC reports and in the process of preparing amendments(s) to the previously filed reports as necessary."
Politico reported that Mitchell informed officials the amended records would be submitted as part of the campaign's year-end filing to the FEC, which are required by the end of January. Mitchell admitted the campaign could not previously afford to hire lawyers and compliance vendors to properly account for the campaign's spending.
