Obama Wants Review of Implicaitons of Artificial Life

President Obama wants a review of the implications of the ability to create artificial life:

President Obama has asked a presidential commission to study the ethical “implications” of scientists’ achievement in creating a living cell out of manufactured DNA and report back within six months.

In a letter to the University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann, who chairs the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, Obama asked that the panel consult religious leaders, scientists and businesses in drawing their recommendations.
