Why Does the Red Cross Help The Taliban?

Jules Crittenden writes about the odd cooperation between the Red Cross and the Taliban:

It’s the Red Cross “Live To Terrorize Another Day” program for the Taliban, whose illegal combatants apparently have been trained in first aid and issued medical equipment by the Red Cross since 2006. AP.

The Red Cross notes it is part of a 151-year tradition that eschews affiliations in the interest of humanity, and that Taliban fighters are often remote from medical care. This will save Taliban lives, and gives the Red Cross the chance to underscore Geneva Convention issues to the Islamic extremist insurgents.

The article notes that U.S. military helicopters often medevac wounded Taliban as well as wounded U.S. personnel, apparently as a point of comparison with the Red Cross program.
