Whitman and Brown Pull out of Gov Debate
Politico reports:
Republican Meg Whitman and Democrat Jerry Brown have both decided to pull out of Tuesday’s planned debate in the California governor’s race — and neither will say why.
The two gubernatorial hopefuls were scheduled to debate Tuesday morning on San Francisco’s KGO radio. But both told the station on Monday that they were canceling.
Asked about the cancellation by POLITICO, representatives for both camps were tight-lipped.
“There were discussions with the station about a debate, by mutual agreement of both campaigns those discussions have been tabled, ” Brown spokesman Sterling Clifford said.
A Whitman source added that there is “no debate” and that “the campaigns have jointly communicated that fact to KGO.”
The cancellation comes after a hyper-aggressive debate on Saturday focused on illegal immigration and allegations that Whitman knowingly employed an illegal immigrant as her housekeeper.
