Waters: Investigate the Ethics Committee

Written by FrumForum News on Tuesday December 7, 2010

The Hill reports:

Rep. Maxine Waters plans to bring a privileged resolution to the floor that calls for an independent investigation of the House ethics committee.

Waters (D-Calif.) has accused the ethics panel of strong>having a weak case< against her after it called off her trial last month, citing the discovery of new evidence.

A draft resolution obtained by strong>CNN< asks the House Speaker to "appoint a bipartisan task force to investigate the circumstances and cause of the decision" to place strong>two committee lawyers on administrative leave< following missteps made in the investigation.

The resolution asks that the panel "report its findings and recommendations to the House of Representatives during the second session of this Congress."

The move is the latest act of defiance by Waters, a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, against the ethics committee.
