But why should we be surprised?  After all, it is the party of Edmund Burke (half-Irish Catholic, known then as a “Rockingham Whig” but now regarded as a hero by the Conservatives), Benjamin Disraeli (Jewish background), Winston Churchill (half-American), and Margaret Thatcher (once cruelly maligned as a "grocer's daughter").

As Disraeli said, “In a progressive country change is constant.”  The Tories just proved that once again.
