The IDF: More Than Just Parades

Written by Noah Kristula-Green on Friday September 17, 2010

At the Values Voter Summit, one speaker claimed that nations which let gays serve openly care more about military parades than security. Well, what about the IDF?

This year’s Values Voter Summit has had many speakers focus on “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” due to the potential Senate vote on Tuesday that could overturn the policy. During a panel discussing the policy, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and the moderator of the panel, made some remarks about why America should keep the policy in place, even though other countries let homosexuals serve openly with few problems:

Those nations who do [let homosexuals serve openly] they embrace [military] parades, they don’t fight wars to keep the world safe.

Since most speakers at the summit make a point to declare how they are all great friends of Israel, and how the struggle against Islamic radicalism is an important one that Israel is on the front lines of, it’s worth being reminded of the fact that they use the IDF for things other than parades, and they let gays serve openly.
