Dropping the Fight Against Obamacare
By only seeking to repeal the portions of the health bill which govern funding, the GOP has embraced the new entitlements established by Obamacare.
It appears that the GOP is going to run as the party that won't pay for Obamacare, as they only want to repeal the part of the bill that funds it:
“There is non-controversial stuff here like the preexisting conditions exclusion and those sorts of things,” [Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn] said. “Now we are not interested in repealing that. And that is frankly a distraction.”
What the GOP will work to repeal, Cornyn explained, are provisions that result in “tax increases on middle class families,” language that forced “an increase in the premium costs for people who have insurance now” and the “cuts to Medicare” included in the legislation…
Many of us were concerned over the past year about the GOP's new-found embrace of entitlement programs, but dismissed it as pandering drivel meant to stop the program from passing. Now it appears that it wasn't pandering: the only parts of the bill that the head of the NRSC is calling for repealing are the ones that intend to pay for the bill.
If Cornyn's statements outline the battle plan for repeal, then stick a fork in the opposition. Obamacare's the permanent law of the land.
