Texans Would Not Support Perry

CNN reports:

According to the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll, only four percent of Texas Republicans would support Republican Gov. Rick Perry in a bid for the White House.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leads the pack of registered voters who expect to vote in the Lone Star state's GOP primary with 12 percent, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 11 percent. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Texas Rep. Ron Paul both received 10 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann were tied with 7 percent.

Real estate mogul Donald Trump, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and former U.S. ambassador to China John Huntsman fell below 7 percent.

Since the poll was conducted, Huckabee, Trump and Daniels announced they will not run in the next election.

Although Perry, the longest serving governor in Texas history, says he will not run for president, he sometimes shows up on the wish list of Republican operatives.

Perry spokesman Mark Miner squashed the rumors Monday.

"Nothing has changed," Miner told CNN. "The governor has no intention of running for president."
