Sestak-Toomey Race In Dead Heat

Politico reports:

A Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday confirmed what Democrats have been arguing for months: The Keystone State’s Senate race is as competitive as any other in the country.

For Democratic Rep. Joe Sestak, the 1-point edge over Pat Toomey marks a stark turnaround — one that is echoed by internal polls from both parties — and further evidence that the Navy man twice considered dead in the water this year has again pulled himself back onto the boat.

Despite Toomey’s long-standing lead in the polls and GOP confidence in his prospects, Pennsylvania’s million-plus Democratic voter registration edge and the state’s propensity for close Senate races all but guaranteed the race would close near the end.

But now it’s actually here.

“We always knew we were going to take some lumps,” a Sestak adviser told POLITICO of the summer months when Toomey and conservative groups had the airwaves to themselves while the Democrat refilled his coffers. “So our aim was to stay competitive and stay in the game until the fall when we got to punch back.”
