Sanders Filibusters Tax Bill

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, is still going strong as he kicks off his fifth hour on the Senate floor protesting the tax bill.
Sanders came to the floor at 10:24a this morning to blast the deal hatched by President Obama and Congressional Republicans.
“I am simply here today to take as long as I can to explain to the American people the fact that we have got to do a lot better than this agreement provides,” he said.
But he’s not alone – in the past few hours Sanders has had the help of some fellow Democrats.
“We need to call the president, to write the president, to work with the president to say, ‘No deal.’ This has got to be something very different from what it is now,” said Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-OH.
Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-LA, also joined the fun.
“I support extending tax cuts for the broad middle class, but there is something terribly wrong here,” she argued.
Despite her vehement objections, Landrieu did not commit to voting against the bill. She said she was “very torn” – “I may vote yes, I may vote no” – noting that when it comes to extending the tax cuts for the middle-class, “We can’t not do it.”
At one point Landrieu offered to wrap up her remarks so Sanders could take the floor again, in case the Vermont senator was pressed for time. Don’t worry, time is no concern, Sanders replied.
“I’m not going anywhere,” he told her.
