Rove: O'Donnell Needs to Be Honest
Two days after giving Christine O’Donnell no chance of winning Delaware’s Senate race, Karl Rove is now offering her some advice: Tell the truth.
“She needs to also be able to answer these questions about her personal background,” Rove said during an interview on Fox News Thursday. “Explain how she got behind on her taxes and her mortgage, why she didn't take care of that college bill and do so in a way that's frank and honest. Look, everybody in their life sometimes has difficulties, and honesty and candor is going to be the best remedy here.”
“She can't get away with simply saying, ‘My answer's on my website’ or ‘it’s puzzling to me why the IRS would file a lien for me when I didn't pay my taxes in 2005,’” he continued. “I mean, she’s got to be more honest than that. If she does, she’s got a shot to win. But it's got to be passionate and factual and hard-hitting.”
O’Donnell has faced questions regarding her irregular finances – she doesn’t have a savings account or investments and reportedly defaulted on her home mortgage and a student loan – but those issues didn’t prevent her from beating Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) for the GOP Senate nomination.
Still, Rove says that O’Donnell’s non-answers on the issues will damage her in the general election.
