Bin Laden Had Pakistan Intel Links
Politico reports:
Osama bin Laden mulled changing Al Qaeda’s name as part of a rebranding effort and had a link to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, according to reports on Friday.
The revelation about the name change deliberation came from a letter found in bin Laden’s Pakistan compound, The Associated Press reported Friday. The letter concluded that Al Qaeda’s actions were killing too many Muslims, and the terror group had an image and marketing problem.
Meanwhile, the terror leader’s courier had numbers in his cell phone that belong to members of a militant group associated with Pakistani intelligence, The New York Times reported.
The Times report suggests the group in touch with bin Laden’s courier was in regular touch with Pakistani intelligence and may have met in person, though it is not clear that they discussed bin Laden. It is also unclear whether Pakistani intelligence was in direct contact with the terror leader.
