Rand Paul May Skip Last Debate
Politico reports:
After refusing to shake his opponent's hand in a Sunday debate, GOP Senate nominee Rand Paul said Monday he might skip his next debate with Democrat Jack Conway entirely.
Paul — angry about an attack ad challenging his Christianity — held a press conference in Lexington, Ky. Monday morning, announcing he will make a final decision soon as to whether he will go through with a scheduled debate against Conway next week.
The debate, slated to be aired on Kentucky Educational Television Oct. 25, is now in danger of being canceled now because Paul is upset about Conway's focus on allegations that Paul, while in college, was member of a secret society that reportedly mocked religion.
Monday's announcement follows a Sunday debate in which Paul expressed extreme frustration not only with Conway's commercial but also with his willingness to center their debate on the issue.
"You demean the state of Kentucky. You embarrass yourself," Paul said Sunday. "You know how we know when you're lying? Your lips are moving... How ridiculous are you? You embarrass this race."
With just 15 days left before the midterm election, Paul and Conway are wrapped up in a tight race to win the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican Jim Bunning.
