According to the latest Gallup Poll numbers, Obama Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan has lower approval ratings than former Bush nominee Harriet Miers.

According to the latest Gallup Poll numbers, Obama Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan has lower approval ratings than former Bush nominee Harriet Miers.  40% of respondents rated Obama’s selection of Kagan as good or excellent versus Miers’ earlier 44% approval number.

The Gallup Poll says that while this number is lower, that it is still close, and many people (24%) still have "No Opinion" of her.

Obviously, public approval has no bearing on a candidate's qualifications or how they will perform at the hearings, but maybe there is a limit to just how blank and bland a safe SCOTUS nominee can be before it starts to backfire?
