Priebus Fires RNC Political Staffers

Politico reports:

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus fired a handful of political staffers Tuesday, making good on a promise he made to clean house at the operation following the tumultuous tenure of Michael Steele.

A Republican source with knowledge of the moves told POLITICO that numerous staffers were let go, including Deputy Political Director Jason McBride and Director of Political Education Tom Roberts.

Last week, a source familiar with the RNC transition effort previewed the personnel changes, promising "the removal of several RNC staffers who were closest to former Chairman Michael Steele."

Even before that, Priebus dismissed aides that Steele had put in place to plan the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa.  Tuesday's moves are the latest sign the former Wisconsin GOP chairman believes he has a mandate to completely revamp the RNC with fresh blood.

Another Republican with knowledge of upheaval said that the firings included "all of the skeleton staff that was left" following Steele's departure.
