Poll: Voters Less Angry at Government
The anger has subsided, at least a little bit, a new poll on Americans’ views of government suggests, but the country is more frustrated with the government than they were six months ago.
Fourteen percent of Americans surveyed for a Pew Research Center poll released Thursday said they are “angry” with the federal government, down from 23 percent in September. But, at the same time, frustration with the government has grown, with 59 percent of those surveyed saying they’re frustrated, up 7 percentage points from September.
Last fall, anger was especially high among Republicans — 33 percent said they were angry with the government. Now, after the GOP’s midterm election victories, that percentage has been cut in half, to 16 percent. Independents are also less angry, with 15 percent saying they are, down from 27 percent last fall. Democrats’ anger was stable in the last two polls, with one in 10 saying they’re angry.
Even among those who say they support the tea party movement, anger has cooled a bit. In September, 47 percent of tea party backers said they were angry. Now, it’s 28 percent.
