Perry to Texans: Pray for Rain
San Antonio Express-News reports:
Emphasizing the danger posed by the wildfires raging across Texas, Gov. Rick Perry issued an official proclamation Thursday urging residents “of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers” for rains to end the drought.
Perry designated the three-day period starting today and ending Easter Sunday as “Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas.”
“Throughout our history ... Texans have been strengthened, assured and lifted up through prayers,” the proclamation noted. “It seems right and fitting that the people of Texas should join together in prayer to humbly seek an end to this devastating drought and these dangerous wildfires.”
Earlier this week, Perry requested that President Barack Obama declare Texas a major disaster area, noting the fires require federal firefighting assistance.
