Pence Might Not Back Budget Deal
Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), a staunch advocate of picking a fight on spending in the latest budget dust-up said on Sunday that he would probably not support the compromise.
“From what I know, it sounds like John Boehner got a good deal,” Pence said on ABC’s “This Week,” adding that the cuts were “probably not good enough for me to support it.”
Pence, a tea party favorite, said that he insisted that Republicans “pick a fight” on this budget issue. But faced with a White House and congressional Democrats that opposed a 2 percent decrease in funding, Boehner was able to get a good deal but not one significant enough to reduce the deficit.
“I’ve been battling run away federal spending under both political parties ever since I arrived in Congress,” Pence said. “What I was saying repeatedly was that house Republicans needed to pick a fight. I think John Boehner fought a good fight.”
