Pence to Run for Indiana Gov
Rep. Mike Pence, a former House GOP leader and favorite of conservatives, said today he'll run for governor of Indiana.
Pence told his political supporters today by conference call, making official what has been anticipated since he announced in January that he would skip a race next year for president.
"Hoosiers know we must have principled leadership at every level to make the right choices," Pence said. "We need to live within our means, and embrace policies that will create good jobs, great schools, safe streets and strong families."
The six-term congressman postponed his announcement for governor because of news that Osama bin Laden had been killed. Pence gave up his post as House Republican Conference chairman last year, with an eye toward running for higher office.
