Palin Will Headline Fundraiser in Iowa
Sarah Palin will speak at a fundraiser in Iowa next September. This will increase speculation about a possible presidential bid:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will take her biggest step yet into the Iowa political terrain next month, headlining the Republican Party’s annual Ronald Reagan dinner in Des Moines on Sept. 17.
The Republican Party of Iowa announced Tuesday that Ms. Palin accepted an invitation to the event, which will be her first major speaking appearance in the state that traditionally opens the presidential nominating season. It is a party fund-raiser, so officials reached out to Ms. Palin in hopes of drawing a large crowd. And she said yes.
“The Iowa GOP is pleased that Governor Palin is traveling to Iowa to join the battle to return principled, conservative leadership to Iowa,” said Matt Strawn, the Iowa Republican chairman. “I know Iowa Republicans will be energized and motivated by Governor Palin to stand up and fight for these principles all the way to Election Day and beyond.”
The appearance will undoubtedly raise a new round of questions: Will she or won’t she run for president in 2012? There will, of course, be no answers provided on that September evening in the state capital – or, perhaps, for many months.
