Opposition: No Talks with Regime
Egypt's outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, the largest and most organized opposition group in the country, Thursday rejected an offer to hold talks with the government aimed at ending more than a week of protests against President Hosni Mubarak.
"We have repeatedly said no dialogue with the current regime until Mubarak steps down. This remains our stance," Gamal Hishmat, one of the group's leaders said in a brief interview.
Egypt's Vice President Omar Suleiman earlier Thursday told state television that the government had contacted the Brotherhood and invited them to hold talks aimed at ending 10 days of protests by government opponents. The protests turned violent when pro-Mubarak demonstrators marched on opposition members shortly after Mubarak announced Tuesday that he wouldn't run in elections slated for later this year.
