Delaware GOP Senate nominee Christine O’Donnell ended her national media blackout Thursday, declaring that while she is not embarrassed by some of her controversial statements from the past, she has “matured.”
“Today you have a 40-something woman running for office. Not a 20-year-old. So that's a big difference,” O’Donnell told CNN.
Video and audio recordings of O’Donnell saying that she once “dabbled” in witchcraft, arguing scientists were putting human brains in mice and predicting China was plotting a “take over” of the United States have proved endless fodder to late-night comedians and political pundits.
But O’Donnell said Thursday that all the revelations about her past statements — some of which were made in just the last few years — are not a reflection on who she is now.
“I haven't been embarrassed. And I'm not saying that I'm proud,” she said. “You know, obviously what they're trying to do is paint a picture of who I was 20 years ago. I've matured in my faith. I've matured in my policies.”
