Obama's Missed Opportunity in Cairo

Written by Martin Krossel on Friday January 28, 2011

Last year, Obama gave a major speech at Cairo University. Why didn't the press or White House care enough about reform in Egypt to make the case then?

I'm watching the Gibbs briefing. He's being grilled on President Obama's failure to pressure Egypt on democratic reform. Fair enough. But last year, Obama gave a major speech at Cairo University. I don't remember him mentioning the need for reform in Egypt in that speech, and I don't remember him being widely criticized for that omission. Both the administration and the press are giving the term "Monday Morning Quarterback" new meaning.
