President Obama thanked the CIA on Friday for providing the information that led to the killing of Osama bin Laden — and for keeping it from the public.

“We did something really remarkable in Washington — we kept it a secret, ” Obama said at CIA’s headquarters as the agency’s workers laughed and clapped. “That’s how it should be.”

Obama recalled to his audience that when he made the decision to raid bin Laden’s compound, he knew the risks were great.

“I knew that the consequences of failure could be enormous,” he said. “But I made the decision that I did because I had absolute confidence in the skills of our military personnel.”

He added, “I put my bet on you.”
