No Charges Over Destroyed CIA Tapes
Criminal charges will not be brought in the Justice Department's long-running investigation of the destruction of CIA videotapes of terrorism detainee interrogations, a senior Justice Department source said Tuesday.
Special prosecutor John Durham, a federal attorney from Connecticut, has been investigating the circumstances of the destruction of the tapes since he was appointed by then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey in 2008.
Durham and his team determined there was not enough evidence to bring an indictment, according to the senior official.
The Justice Department is expected to issue a statement on the matter later Tuesday.
