Newt's Daughter: He's 'Serious' About Prez Run
Newt Gingrich’s daughter says her father may be doing more than just flirting with a run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.
"He's very serious," said Jackie Gingrich Cushman, an author and syndicated columnist, in an interview with Human Events posted Monday. "Much more serious than he ever has been. And I can tell that because we actually sat down the two of us, for two hours recently — and I don't think that's happened since I had children."
Gingrich considered a run for the Republican nomination in 2008 but ultimately decided against it to instead focus on his political group, American Solutions for Winning the Future, and other interests.
But the former speaker of the House may see the coming presidential cycle as the time to run, Cushman said. "I think he's very concerned” about the direction the country has taken since President Barack Obama was sworn in. "The major thing is how far we've changed in the last few years," she said.
A decision, Cushman added, will come in the next few months.
