NC Republican Tries to Reignite Mosque Debate
North Carolina Republican Renee Ellmers is trying to jump-start her lagging congressional campaign with a fiery new ad slamming the proposed Islamic community center blocks from ground zero.
“After the Muslims conquered Jerusalem, and Cordoba and Constantinople, they built victory mosques, and now they want to build a mosque by ground zero,” says the narrator in the 30-second ad. “Where does [Democratic Rep.] Bob Etheridge stand? He won’t say, won’t speak out, won’t take a stand.”
The spot closes with Ellmers, a nurse who heads the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce, looking directly into the camera, saying, “the terrorists haven’t won, and we should tell them in plain English, ‘No, there will never be a mosque at ground zero.’”
