Politico reports:

Sen. Lisa Murkowski was certified the winner of Alaska's U.S. Senate race on Thursday, drawing to an end a two-month legal battle mounted by her opponent Joe Miller.

Gov. Sean Parnell and Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell signed documents declaring Murkowski, a Republican, victorious in her write-in campaign against tea-party-backed Republican Miller and Democrat Scott McAdams.

The certificate is set to be hand-delivered to Washington so Murkowski can be sworn in on Jan. 5 along with the rest of the newly elected senators.

“It feels great to have finality and for Sen. Murkowski to officially be declared the winner of the election,” Kevin Sweeney, Murkowski's campaign manager, said in a statement. “We spent six weeks running a campaign, and it took eight weeks to get the final result. While the long wait may make it anticlimactic, it does not diminish the historic accomplishment of our campaign.”

Murkowski ran as a write-in candidate after Miller bested her in the state’s Republican primary. Murkowski defied the GOP establishment by launching her unlikely bid. She’s the first senator since Strom Thurmond to win as a write-in candidate.
