Murkowski Might Announce Write-In Campaign

Politico reports:

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski could announce a write-in campaign for her current seat as early as Monday, according to one of her top supporters and organizers.

Andrew Halcro, a key Murkowski supporter and former Republican state representative, told POLITICO that the senator “will make an announcement early next week, a Monday announcement.”

“I think the chances are pretty high that she’s going to mount a write-in campaign,” said Halcro, who supports Murkowski’s efforts to stay in the race and has even commissioned a poll recently on her behalf.

Murkowski conceded the GOP primary last month to attorney Joe Miller, who shocked the Alaska political establishment – including the senator, who still had seven figures in her campaign account – with his win. But since last week, Murkowski has openly considered her options to stay in the race, and now her supporters believe she has settled on mounting a write-in campaign in order to hold on to her seat, rather than running under a third-party banner.
