Murkowski Ad Features Ted Stevens
The Wall Street Journal reports:
Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski unveiled a TV spot featuring an endorsement by the late Ted Stevens, taped just 10 days before the former senator’s death in an August plane crash.
The ad shows snapshots of Mr. Stevens and Ms. Murkowski together, including one from the 1970s, when Ms. Murkowski interned for Mr. Stevens.
“I trust Lisa and her commitment to keep fighting for us. . . . We need Lisa and the seniority she’s earned now more than ever,” he says in the ad.
Ms. Murkowski, an incumbent, is running a write-in campaign after losing in the Republican Senate primary two weeks after the crash. She had shelved the ad then, but Mr. Stevens’s daughter recently said it would be OK to use the footage.
Murkowski spokesman Steve Wackowski, who worked for Mr. Stevens, said “He would have said, ‘Damn it, I spent hours taping with you, Steve. You better damn well use the footage.’”
