More GOP Debate Questions

Written by FrumForum Editors on Wednesday September 21, 2011

FrumForum is asking its regular contributors and readers what questions should be asked of the candidates at the next GOP debate on Thursday, September 22nd. This is our second collection of questions.

Question from Zac Morgan:

Governor Perry, just how much will your foreign policy with Israel and other countries rely upon your Christian faith?

Question from Don Ice

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program allocates over $1 billion annually in research and development grants for small American businesses. Do you believe the SBIR budget should be trimmed, expanded, or left untouched, and why?

Question from Andrew Pavelyev:

  1. On the next inauguration day the economy will either be steadily recovering or in a really bad global recession triggered by a severe Euro crisis. What would be the key differences between your economic policies in these two scenarios?
  2. There’s a significant chance that during your presidency you will be told that either you authorize the use of force or Iran will soon acquire nuclear weapons. Which of these two options will you consider completely unacceptable?
  3. Congresswoman Bachmann, do you think the government is trying to impurify all of our precious bodily fluids?
  4. Gov. Perry, since you consider expanding money supply almost treasonous, what is your forecast of the velocity of money dynamics between now and the election?
  5. Mr. Cain, presidents solve problems by political methods, such as balancing competing interests, building coalitions, persuading voters and negotiating with Congress. All those tasks require quite significant political skills and experience. Why do you make a virtue of being the only non-politician on this stage?
  6. Gov. Huntsman, are you running for Vice President or for Republican presidential nomination in 2016?

Questions from Rachel Ryan:

Do you support further investment and development of nuclear energy?

If not, what alternative to environmentally harmful coal and/or oil from foreign autocracies do you propose?

If so, how do you plan to deal with nuclear waste, given that the US can neither reprocess nuclear waste nor develop Yucca Mountain where they initially intended to transport and store all nuclear waste...?

Questions from Chris Ladd:

Has NAFTA been a good thing for the US?

In light of events on Wall Street over the past decade, was the Glass-Steagall Act a mistake?

Describe what "victory" in "The War on Terror" will look like.

Question from David Mayer:

Please name one living scientist whom you admire.

Question from Fred Bauer:

Many of you have talked about which of President Obama's policies you would repeal, but let's look a little further into the past.  If you could reverse just one of President George W. Bush's policies, what would it be?

Governor Romney's recent economic plan called for "get tough" action on the People's Republic of China for its manipulation of its currency and other policies that undercut American manufacturing.  Does his proposal have merit or does it smack of an unworthy protectionism?
