Chancellor Angela Merkel recalls a chapter of history too often overlooked. The Nazi concentration camp at Buchenwald had a second life - as a Soviet concentration camp.

Today we remember the victims of this place. This includes remembering the victims of the so-called Special Camp 2, a detention camp run by the Soviet military administration from 1945 to 1950. Thousands of people perished due to the inhumane conditions of their detention.
