Majority of Americans Support Gay Marriage
The Daily Beast reports:
A Gallup poll released on Friday showed that 53 percent of Americans believe that gay marriage should be recognized by law with the same rights as traditional marriages. The results were based on Gallup's three day Values and Beliefs poll in May, which they have tracked every year since 2004 (the first poll ever done on the topic was carried out in 1996). This year showed a nine-point increase in support for gay marriage—the largest increase ever in a one year period—but the shift was exclusive to independents and Democrats. Republicans' numbers did not change from last year. One particularly interesting result from the poll: more people support same-sex marriage between younger partners than they do between older partners.
