Legislation Done Right
Last night, members of the Senate Finance Committee took part in a 90-minute conference call to discuss lowering health costs and providing affordable coverage. The founders designed the legislative process to be difficult and time consuming, and the Finance Committee’s work is no exception.
Whether or not they are able to reach a compromise, the members of the Finance committee are to be commended. While many of their colleagues have spent their recesses taking pot shots at one another via the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, these six Senators have continued to work behind closed doors to produce a rational, bi-partisan bill. At the end of the day, the members of the Finance committee may not be able to come to an agreement. But at least they are trying to be the lawmakers that the taxpayers hired them to be. That’s more than can be said for the rest of Congress.
