Last Hired, First Fired
When you move, you find things. Having just completed a move, I came across a poster from a conference I attended at the US Military Academy a number of years ago. It featured the graduation portraits of illustrious West Point alumni. U.S. Grant, was there, of course, along with George S. Patton and Dwight Eisenhower. But there was apparently no room for William T. Sherman or Philip H. Sheridan. Former Philippines President Fidel Ramos ('50) made the cut, but if Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and all other Confederates were too politically incorrect to make the cut, what chance did Anastasio Somoza have? But seriously, who do you think there was room for? Why Louis E. Caldera, Class of 1978. At the time, of course, I'm sure almost everyone's reaction was "Who's he?" Well, no more. Undoubtedly the Air Force Academy is giving thanks he isn't one of theirs.
