Kirk: For a Less Embarrassing Illinois

Written by Jeb Golinkin on Tuesday March 30, 2010

The latest email from Mark Kirk's Senate campaign team puts the focus for the race where it should be: on the poor governance and corruption of the Illinois Democratic party.

Excerpted text of a direct mail message from Mark Kirk's campaign:

“Are you worried about this country in a way you haven’t been before? Has someone laughed at you because you are from Illinois?...

We’re up against ACORN/SEIU, the Trial Lawyers and MoveOn.org – they have millions to keep Congress approving more taxes and government spending.  We won in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia – but to win in Illinois, we have to run a huge campaign against powerful groups that want to keep expanding the government’s control.

In recent days, the Congress approved 12 new federal taxes and deep cuts to health care for seniors on Medicare – along with orders to hire 16,000 more IRS agents.  Iran is accelerating its nuclear program as key allies in the Middle East are blasted by our government.

I am for lower taxes, less spending and strong support for countries that stand with America.  If you agree, now is the time to make the greatest difference in the future of our country.

Corruption, taxes and spending have never had better years than 2010...”

Jobs, deficit, corruption, national security, and the best line from a campaign that I've heard in some time.“Has anyone laughed at you because you are from Illinois?” is fabulous. There needs to be a commercial with a voice asking the viewer this question as pictures of Blagojevich, Rezko, and Broadway Bank flash across the screen. Dynamite.

Now if we can get Kirk to focus on the topics he talks about in this direct mail ad and avoid putting his foot in his mouth by challenging the President, who not only has the podium and the attention of the national media whenever he wants it but also is quite popular in Illinois, Mark Kirk just might win this thing.
