Kentucky GOP Chose the Wrong Candidate
Rand Paul's comments are proof we chose the wrong person. Not because his opinions are objectionable -- indeed, I agree with him on this issue -- but because Paul forgot that campaigns are times to mobilize not educate.
Rand Paul's comments on the 1964 Civil Rights Act are proof that we chose the wrong person. It's not that his opinions are objectionable -- indeed, I agree with him on this issue -- but that people simply do not understand libertarian principles enough to put the opinion in its proper context. It doesn't matter how good his explanation is: you can't educate people through a political campaign. All throughout the fall, we'll be bombarded with ads about how Rand Paul waffles on -- wait for it! -- the Civil Rights Act of 1964! But a campaign is there to mobilize, not educate. You can't transform the culture in a five-month campaign.
