Judge Orders Recount in Minn. Gov Race

Politico reports:

It’s another recount for Minnesota: The state’s Canvassing Board says it will begin hand-counting the 2.1 million ballots cast in this month’s gubernatorial election.

Certified election results from the board have Democrat Mark Dayton leading Republican Tom Emmer by 8, 770 votes, within the half-percentage-point margin needed to trigger an automatic recount.

The recount is slated to start Monday in the state’s 87 counties and should be completed by Dec. 7. The board will then review challenged ballots with the goal of certifying a winner by Dec. 14. The winner of the contest is set to be sworn in on Jan. 3.

If Emmer still trails Dayton after the recount, he can opt to file a lawsuit challenging the result. Outgoing Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty has said he would stay on for a few weeks, if needed.
