Politico reports:

The top House investigative committee has launched an inquiry into a former senior Securities Exchange Commission official who investigated the Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme and whose family also had an account with the swindler.

House Oversight and Investigations Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) issued a subpoena to Madoff trustee Irving Picard, telling him to turn over all “all documents” on the family account of David Becker, former SEC general counsel.

The committee is investigating how long Becker’s family, who had an account with the now-defunct Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, was involved with Madoff.

Issa also wants to know how involved Becker was in deciding the payout of Madoff victims — to that end, the committee is seeking a host of different types of communication between the SEC and the Madoff trustee.
