How Reid & Pelosi Handcuffed the Dem Congress
Congress adjourned last week to go home and campaign for re-election. No budget, no tax policy agreement, no immigration reform, no border security and for the most part, Congressional leadership allowed most of Congress little or no involvement in the affairs of the nation.
What happened to those individuals whom we elected to go to Congress in November, 2008? You remember them? How could they even think about coming home to campaign when they did not complete their work? What were they doing during the past two years?
With legislators coming home to campaign for re-election, it is time to ask them about their role in Congress. What did you actually do for the past two years? Did you do any more than spend time raising money for your current campaign to keep your job? Were you actually involved in anything important?
Congress passed two exceptionally important bills since the election of President Obama: the stimulus and healthcare reform. Democratic Congressional leadership controlled those two bills with the veracity of a German shepherd protecting his master. That leadership allowed no discussion and no amendments; the bills passed on party line votes.
Voters should ask their Congressman: So, “Bob”, what were you doing? Based on what was reported by the media, not only were you unable to participate in crafting the legislation, but you were not given the opportunity to read it before you voted. Have you read it since you voted on it?
So, “Bob”, does it bother you that the healthcare bill, which you did not read before you voted on it and still have not found time to read, effectively delegated the writing of all of the rules to appointed (and un-appointed) bureaucrats? Does it bother you that the stimulus bill effectively created a brown paper bag full of money for the president to dole out at his discretion? What was and is your role in legislation?
You voted for your party’s leadership and they excluded you from the process. Is that OK; are you going to vote to be excluded again? Have you outsourced your elected role?
If you are voting for leadership that excludes you from the process and then they delegate the substantive part of legislation to those appointed and un-appointed bureaucrats, hasn’t your entire job been outsourced? Given the way you are doing this job, couldn’t you find a way to have a real job and just vote by internet when your party’s leadership told you how to vote?
What is it exactly that we elected you to do? Didn’t it have something to do with representing us in Washington? Have you outsourced your job? And “Bob”, if that is the case, maybe you are the wrong guy for the next two years?
