House Passes $42 Billion Small Business Aid Bill
In a 226-186 vote, the House approved a $42 billion bill to provide aid to small businesses.
President Obama, attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, said that he will sign the just-passed small business bill on Monday.
Obama, who made passage of the small business tax cuts and lending legislation one of the centerpieces of his summer economic agenda, continued to blast Republicans for delaying the bill.
"After months of partisan obstruction and needless delay, I’m grateful that Democrats and a few Republicans came together to support this common-sense plan to put Americans back to work," Obama said in a statement Thursday.
The White House pressured the Senate to pass the bill before the August recess, but time ran out before Democrats could find the Republican support needed to beat a GOP filibuster. The legislation includes $12 billion in tax breaks and would create a $30 billion facility to expand credit access to small businesses.
