Gov. Christie Turned Down CPAC Invite

The New Jersey Star Ledger reports:

Christie, who called himself a “conservative” while juxtaposing himself against a “liberal” Obama in a speech on Wednesday, won’t be at the largest gathering of the nation’s conservatives in two months.

The Conservative Political Action Committee, known as CPAC, holds an annual conference in March and boasts the who’s who of right-wing leaders. The winner of a presidential straw poll conducted at the end of the conference gets heralded as the conservative-backed candidate.

This year’s speaking list includes commentator Ann Coulter, Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich. There’s also a crowd of governors past and present: Mitch Daniels of Indiana, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Rick Perry of Texas.
Missing from the list? Christie. And it’s not because he wasn’t invited, CPAC officials confirmed to The Auditor.

“I can only tell you that the governor receives hundreds of speaking and appearance invitations every month, many of which are declined for a number of reasons,” Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak said in an e-mail. “As with our other declinations, I don’t see the need to explain it to The Star-Ledger.”
