GOP Candidates have Fundraising Edge

The Wall Street Journal reports:

Republican candidates in the closest campaigns for the Senate have moved ahead of their Democratic rivals in the fund-raising race, according to reports released late Friday.

In the 10 closest Senate races, the Republican raised more than the Democrat during the three month period that ended Sept. 30, according to data reported to the Federal Election Commission.

As the race for Congress heads into its final stretch, this marks the first time in the two-year election cycle that Republican candidates for the Senate raised more than Democrats in the closest races.

In all, Republicans raised $42.2 million in those 10 races, nearly $16 million more than their Democratic opponents.

The fund-raising surge also left Republican candidates in these races with more money left to spend in the final crucial two weeks than Democrats—another first this election period.
