A great way to start off the month of May? You bet. Freshmen GOPers celebrate the killing of Osama bin Laden, largely giving credit to the military and the intelligence community for the success of the operation. 55 freshmen issued press releases today on the topic, but few mentioned or gave any credit to Presdient Obama - only 27% did. 24% of freshmen mentioned President Bush. 4% to Petraeus. PRESIDENTS: 27% of freshmen GOPers at least partially gave President Obama credit; 24% to President Bush.“There is no doubt that the justice brought today is due to the tireless effort and work of George W. Bush and the continued efforts of President Obama and his administration. PETRAEUS SHOUTOUTS: Two freshmen Reps. gave shoutouts to Gen. David Petraeus this morning. “I want to thank General Petraeus and our troops who, for years, have been fighting for justice,” said Rick Crawford (AR-01). “Our appreciation and gratitude goes out to General Petreaus and the brave men and women in theater,” echoed Rep. CHABOT LOBBIED ON PALESTINIAN STATE: On a visit to Cairo, Rep. Steve Chabot (OH-01) was urged by the new Egyptian foreign minister to press the American government for recognition of an independent Palestinian state. This request represents a break with Egyptian policy under former President Hosni Mubarak, who opposed a Palestinian state without US and Israeli approval.

RIBBLE TAKES STAND ON OIL SUBSIDIES: Rep. Reid Ribble (WI-08) continues to stand by his suggestion that federal subsidies for oil companies be lowered at a time of record profits - and prices at the pump.
