FroshUpdate: Town Hall Ruckus in NY

Written by Tim Mak on Friday April 29, 2011

Zombies gather outside Rep. Daniel Webster’s Florida district office, and New York’s Michael Grimm is the latest to have a rowdy town hall. Grimm is also under continuing fire for the story in the New Yorker in which he is alleged to have brandished a pistol at a club in 1999.

Meanwhile, Rep. Cory Gardner goes to extraordinary lengths to win what he anticipates to be a close race in 2030. This is FroshUpdate for April 29, 2011.

TOWN HALLS RUCKUS IN NY: Rep. Michael Grimm (NY-13) continues to take heat, both personally and professionally. Wednesday night, he fell victim to a recent wave of raucous town hall meetings packed with seniors angry about changes to Medicare in the Ryan budget bill. http://nyti.ms/lGZmt3

BRAAAAAINSSS: A group of "zombies" gathered outside Congressman Daniel Webster's (FL-08) office on Thursday. The walking members of the undead were not searching for brains, as is more customary, but protesting potential cuts to entitlement programs. The protesters wore heavy make-up to get in character. http://bit.ly/kVfc2l

MORE TROUBLE FOR GRIMM: In addition, Democratic public advocate Bill DeBlasio has demanded that the NYPD and Justice Department release all records pertaining to the 1999 incident in which then-FBI agent Rep. Grimm allegedly brandished his service pistol and threatened his date's estranged husband. http://bit.ly/lpyCeM

ONE MORE VOTER IN 2030: Congratulations to Rep. Cory Gardner (CO-04), who recently announced that he and his wife are expecting their second child in November. Gardner said, "We're doing everything we can to solidify my base of support in the 4th Congressional District." http://bit.ly/me5h4H

CLUB FOR GROWTH SAYS NO TO BERG: The anti-tax, pro-business Club for Growth has come out against the idea of Rep. Rick Berg (ND-01) running for North Dakota's open Senate seat in 2012. Berg, who had been drafted to run by North Dakota businessmen and party leaders, was disqualified by Club for Growth because of his failure to vote for spending cuts. http://wapo.st/jbinDX

LUNCH IS SUPPORT?! The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) sent out an email blast against Rep. Frank Guinta (NH-01) for his attendance at a $1,000 a head luncheon (organized by the New Hampshire GOP) with Donald Trump. The email said that Guinta supported Trump for president and that Guinta was "out of touch" with ordinary people. http://bit.ly/iUGHPF

WEST VS. THINKPROGRESS: Rep. Allen West's (FL-22) office - no strangers to controversy - put out a statement Thursday taking issue with liberal blog ThinkProgress' assertion that West was pre-screening questioners at his (sometimes raucous) town hall meetings. West's office said that no staff were involved with any of the questions and has demanded ThinkProgress retract the story. http://bit.ly/mmjlkw

WEST FOR PREZ?: Glenn Beck interviews Allen West: What everyone was looking for is whether or not West is going to run for president in 2012. The answer? “Not now.” But “not now” wasn’t an answer Beck was willing to take, and instead edited West‘s response to include the answer he’d been wishing for. http://bit.ly/jzhUA4

TORNADOS: Rep. Mo Brooks (AL-05) has been reduced to charging his cell phone from his car battery due to the tornados that have ravaged his state. Even though he is without power, he considers himself one of the lucky ones — none of the multiple tornadoes that ravaged the state touched down near his Huntsville home. http://politi.co/jxv2sr
